Nexperia and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic partnership that will connect a major European semiconductor supplier with Tata’s expanding manufacturing platform in India. The agreement covers wafer fabrication, semiconductor assembly and testing, and longer-term technology and ecosystem collaboration.

The announcement was made on September 17, 2026, during SEMICON India 2026. The business significance goes beyond one agreement: it adds an international semiconductor supplier to Tata Electronics’ developing manufacturing and packaging network in India.

What exactly are Nexperia and Tata Electronics doing?

The partnership is structured around three areas: front-end wafer fabrication, back-end assembly and test, and technology and ecosystem development. Tata Electronics and Nexperia said they are laying the groundwork to manufacture Nexperia’s MOSFET portfolio at Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300mm semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat.

The agreement also covers assembly and testing of Nexperia’s discrete semiconductor products at Tata Electronics’ semiconductor packaging facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The companies also intend to collaborate on technology development and ecosystem initiatives.

Why Dholera and Jagiroad matter

Tata Electronics is building semiconductor manufacturing capabilities across two major locations. Its Dholera project in Gujarat is being developed as a commercial semiconductor fab, while the Jagiroad facility in Assam is focused on semiconductor packaging and assembly and test operations.

Tata Electronics says the combined investment in the Dholera and Jagiroad projects is about US$14 billion. The Nexperia partnership therefore creates a potential link between an international chip supplier and both the front-end and back-end parts of Tata Electronics’ planned Indian semiconductor operations.

What Nexperia brings to the partnership

Nexperia is headquartered in the Netherlands and supplies semiconductors used in automotive, industrial, consumer, communications and other electronic applications. The company says it ships more than 100 billion products annually.

For Tata Electronics, the agreement creates a framework to connect planned Indian manufacturing capacity with an established global semiconductor supplier. For Nexperia, it provides a potential additional manufacturing and packaging pathway in India.

What this means for India’s semiconductor business

The announcement does not mean that commercial production under this partnership has already started. It establishes a framework for future manufacturing, assembly, testing and technology collaboration.

Its business importance lies in the breadth of the relationship. Tata Electronics is simultaneously developing fab capacity, packaging capability and partnerships across materials, equipment, technology, design and talent. Nexperia adds another international semiconductor company to that ecosystem.

The companies did not disclose financial terms for the Nexperia partnership. The agreement was announced alongside several other semiconductor collaborations at SEMICON India 2026, highlighting the effort to build supporting relationships around the physical manufacturing projects.

What happens next?

The next milestones to watch are progress at Tata Electronics’ Dholera fab and Jagiroad packaging facility, technology-readiness work, qualification and manufacturing plans for Nexperia products, and any later announcements about production timelines or commercial volumes.

For businesses in automotive, industrial electronics, consumer devices and other chip-dependent sectors, those milestones will help show how quickly India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity can become part of global supply chains.
